Reclaiming Your Spirit of Power When All Feels Lost

Reclaiming Your Spirit of Power When All Feels Lost

It's not very often we, as wives and moms, get the opportunity to receive sound advice or life encouragement from someone who really knows what they're talking about.  You know...from a professional.  Someone who knows, because they've been trained specifically on how to inspire and encourage us.

Well, today I'm very excited to introduce you to my good friend, Sharon Larson, of SharonTogether.com.  Sharon is a life coach whose mission is to help her clients discover how to be their best.   She knows just how to inspire you to be all God created you to be.

Beautiful.     Worthy.      Extraordinary.

Statistics don’t ever make us feel better. Sure, it’s nice to know that you don’t stand alone in the unemployed list. 13.1 million U.S. citizens can join you. More than forty-two percent of those who are jobless have been so for over twenty-seven weeks. But it doesn’t really help to know this, does it?

To you, this is real life. It’s devastating. It’s heartbreaking, dream demising, budget altering, image compromising, fear inducing, and downright scary. Like ...

Working Our Way Through Not Working

Working Our Way Through Not Working

It's often difficult to find others who are going through similar circumstances with which we can relate to or learn from.  Especially (and surprisingly so) with unemployment.  Sometimes it just helps to know there's another married couple out there going through the exact same thing.

So I'm excited to be able to introduce you to Suzanne Blair of Frugal Friends Network.  She and her husband experienced their own lengthy season of unemployment as well, and Suzanne agreed to share some of her story and some really helpful tips for Working Your Way Through Not Working.

After you read what Suzanne has to say, be sure to click over to Frugal Friends Network and check out their website.  It's a really great money saving resource.

When my husband was laid off from work, it was during which time my daughter, Sierra, was passing away. It was a blessing in that he was able to be with me during that difficult time; however, due to medical bills and both of us having debt ...

Being My Husband’s Help Meet

Being My Husband’s Help Meet

The Lord said, "It is not good for the man to be alone.  I will make a helper suitable for him."

~Genesis 2:18

My husband starts his new job tomorrow.  Excitement and nervousness all mixed up into one giant mug of emotion brews quietly within him.  We are thrilled about this blessing from God.   It's a long awaited answer to prayer.

However, with it comes change.   And change can sometimes be uncomfortable to maneuver through.

What Does This Change Mean For My Husband?

For my husband, this change means he will be forced back into a normal sleep/wake schedule.  No more staying up all night worrying or dozing in front of the TV.  He's actually going to have to go to bed at night and get up early each morning.

He's also going to have the adjustment of getting his mind back into work mode, as well as being out among other adults all day, every day.   You'd think this would be easy to adjust to, but he's stared at my face ...

Facing Our Relatives During Unemployment

Facing Our Relatives During Unemployment

When my husband and I were going through our long journey of unemployment, one of the most difficult things we had to deal with was facing our relatives.

His parents boldly spoke their mind about the situation, often without thinking of how painful their words touched our already bruised egos.

My parents chose silence on the issue, which was equally painful in a passive aggressive sort of nature.   It was the "let's not talk about the giant elephant in the room because we strongly oppose the decisions you've made to deal with it," silence.

Honestly though, I don't know what we would have done without the support we were blessed with (both emotionally and financially) from our family.  Even though many days I wanted to avoid them at all costs, God continued to push me into their presence either in person or by phone.  Despite our personal embarrassment, they did comfort us.  Even though we felt like they were judging us, they did still care for us.

Can You Relate?

When we're facing a difficult circumstance in our life, God ...

Hard Times During Unemployment

Hard Times During Unemployment

Millions of families across the nation are dealing with the difficulty of unemployment.  And sadly, the spouse of the unemployed family member carries their own set of emotional burdens.

It's a very lonely place to be and the overwhelming emotions can often become destructive to the marriage.  There are ways to cope through this storm and deal with those feelings in healthy, fruitful, and productive ways.  Trust me, I know because I've lived it.  For three very long years.

That's why I wrote the book UnEMPLOYED Faith.

Today, I'm honored to be featured as a guest over at Spanish4Kiddos where Barbara has read my book, interviewed me on her website, and is offering a giveaway of the book too!

She asked me some really great questions about my journey and how others can find the support they need.   So please join me over there, will you?  And don't forget to enter her giveaway to WIN your copy of UnEMPLOYED Faith!

Has God Refined You?

Has God Refined You?

If you follow my other blog, ChristianSuperMom, you may already know that after three years of enduring the life trial of unemployment, and only days after publishing my book UnEMPLOYED Faith, God has answered our prayers and provided a great job for my husband.

The Author of our life has indeed been glorified!

The heavy weight of this life crisis we've had to deal with day in and day out, has finally been lifted from our shoulders.  The funny thing is (if you can call our suffering funny) we actually didn't realize how much dealing with unemployment was weighing us down until it was no longer an issue.  Sure, we knew it was difficult and stressful, but we didn't fully comprehend just how much we were enduring.

A confirmed sign that God carried most of the burden for us.

The past few days I've noticed how much deeper I breathe and how unbelievably relaxed I feel.  Was I really that uptight before?  I've actually made it three whole days without yelling at my kids for ...

A Frugal Lifestyle During Unemployment

A Frugal Lifestyle During Unemployment

In today's economy, the word unemployment is all too common.  Our national unemployment rate is at least 8.5% right now.  This equates to millions of American families currently struggling through a season of unemployment in their home.

It's so hard!  If you fall into those sad statistics, I know what you're going through.

My husband and I are now in year 3 of our unemployment journey.  It's been a long and emotionally devastating road for us.  This is by far the most difficult "money crunch" we've had to deal with in our 13 years together.  With the grace of God, we are still getting by.

Today, I'm over at Frugal Friend's Network discussing some tips on living a more frugal lifestyle during unemployment.   Join me there?

When You Are Going Through Something Hard

One of my favorite blogging friends stumbled across this on Pinterest and posted it on her website. I thought it was so appropriate for UnEMPLOYED Faith that I just had to share.

Keep trusting in God's plan my friend.  Seriously, He hears your prayers and He has beautiful things in store for you.  Don't ever lose sight of that truth.

While We Wait…

While We Wait…

One of the ways my husband and I have kept communication open between us, and Christ at the center of our marriage has been through regularly reading a couples devotion together.   This time we share with the Lord has helped strengthen our spiritual bond with one another.  It has also played a huge role in our ability to persevere in faith through our lengthy season of unemployment.

A while back I posted about this very topic on my other blog, ChristianSuperMom.   I wanted to share it here too, because I think you will find it encouraging and uplifting.

The couples devotion book we are reading is this one.

15 Minute Devotions For Couples, by Bob and Emilie Barnes

I'm going to share an excerpt from this devotion that speaks volumes to the transformation that takes place as we wait patiently for God's timing.  When my husband and I read this, we had a very big "Aha!" moment.  I hope you will as well.

Here it is:
