3 Reasons Not To Give Up

You're out of work.

Unemployed.

Laid off.

Again!

This is one of those days when you feel defeated, backed into a corner, and too weak to fight back.   The embarrassment of being without a job is more than you can deal with anymore.  You feel like you've let down your wife and your children.   And you feel like society looks down on you for not being a better provider.

The words "I give up" burn through your heart and sting your brain.

Don't give up!

God Commands You To Be The Leader Of Your Home

In the book of Ephesians, Paul teaches about submission.  In a marriage, both husband and wife are called to submit to the other.  For the wife, this means willingly following her husband's leadership over the family.  For the husband, this means putting aside his own interests (and in this case, feelings) to care for the needs of his wife and his children.

You see, your wife is looking to you to lead the family.  The fact that our economy is in shambles and you fell victim to a job layoff, doesn't mean she no longer loves you or respects you.  Believe it or not, her heart aches over this situation, and for you.  She needs to know you're okay.  The best way to show her you're okay is to be okay.   If you cower into a corner and take no action to effectively lead your family, then she will likely lose respect and at that point, you've allowed unemployment to start ripping apart your family life.

Be strong.  You still have an identity.  You are the leader of your home.  So lead with courage and faith.

God Has Something Better In Store For You

Losing your job certainly doesn't seem like something good.  After all, you need money to survive and provide the basic needs for your family.  So how can not having that financial security be a good thing?  Well, Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

It is God's purpose to draw His children in closer to Him, for a more deep and trusting relationship.  It is God's purpose to transform us into more Christ like individuals.  It is God's purpose to be glorified.

So while Satan may be responsible for your job loss, God allowed it to happen for a very specific reason.  He has big plans for you.  You may not see them right away.  In fact, you may be in for a season of waiting, but when this trial is all over with, you'll look back and notice how much you grew and changed and you'll see what abundant blessing He had in store for you all along.

Perhaps that will be in the form of a new, refreshing career that you are passionate about.  Maybe He has an awesome job opportunity in mind that better suits your God given gifts and talents.  Or could He be moving you closer to parents or siblings so you'll have the benefit of family nearby.   I don't know what He has in store for you, but I know it's something big and something good.

God Commands You To Walk By Faith

God created this universe simply by speaking words.  He never lifted a finger to create the planet we live on, the sun that brightens our days, or the stars in the sky.  His word has awesome power.  So our God, who created the earth and everything in it, can and will handle the details of your life.

Believe that God will fulfill His promises to provide your every need, to protect you and your family, to bring good from this difficult situation, and to bless you abundantly for your faithfulness, even if you don't see those promises materializing just yet.

Do your part.  Keep looking for a  job.  Keep educating yourself.  Keep seeking God in prayer and for wisdom.  Keep believing that no matter how long you end up unemployed, God's got it all under control.  He will provide for you and your family in miraculous ways.  He knows exactly what you need, when you need it.  You simply need to trust Him, believe His promises, and praise Him.

Friend, the road you are traveling is not going to be smooth.  It has already proved to be a difficult journey for you, otherwise you wouldn't be visiting this website.

I'll leave you with this powerful verse to consider:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.   ~Hebrews 12:1-3

May you be encouraged and inspired.

Don't give up.
